Rap Skits

I’m not sure who is propogating the myth, but skits on rap albums are not funny. In fact, I can count the number of entertaining skits on one hand. And that includes those that are just mildly entertaining the first time.

Take a lesson from indie labels. Stop recording 74 or 80 minute albums if you’ve only got 45 minutes worth of music. Hell, just release an EP. That’s cool in many circles. If you need an excuse, just say you love vinyl.

  1. you know I don’t mind skits or interludes when they are done right, say for exampl on Tool’s Lateralus Album. But I agree most hip hop/rap skits suck!

  2. Interludes are different. In fact, some interludes, like on Temple of Boom are among the best tracks on the album. But most rap albums don’t have DJ Muggs on them.

  3. I was going to say the same thing. I actually burn Temple of Boom interludes onto mix CDs just because they’re so damned good.

  4. Then there is Dr. Octagon, gross……. But I like Erykah Badu’s interlude, “ya need ta, pick yo afro daddy… because it’s flat on one side.”

  5. Yea, I guess I just flip through them, There are a lot of really bad one’s out there, but sometimes you get one that’s kind of good. Of course I can’t think of a single one now though.

  6. There are some decent ones on Fugees The Score or maybe it was The Carnival. With Down Low Ho. Those are funny the first time or two. As long as you only listen to the album once a year or so.
