Five potential iTunes Purchases

I’ve spent nearly 2 hours trying to decide on what to get with the iTunes gift certificate I received for christmas. I’m having a hard time committing because most of the albums I really want aren’t actually on iTunes. I do take some pride in saying that, yes, but I’m kind of disappointed. Not much MFDoom/Mad Villain, nothing from The Duo, lots of partial albums and a surprising bulk of lame jazz. I’d like to buy recent music but so much of it just isn’t appealing to me. I keep flipping between allmusic and iTunes. I wish iTunes had tabbed browsing. The navigation don’t really let you explore without losing your tracks.

So here’s my current top five potential purchases.

  1. The Reverend Horton Heat – Revival or Lucky 7
  2. Redman – Muddy Waters
  3. Bob Dylan – Nashville Skyline Remastered
  4. Mos Def – The New Danger (despite the poor reviews)
  5. RJD2 – Since We Last Spoke

updated as opinion changes…

  1. I’ve actually heard really good things about the Mos Def album. Depends on who you ask kind of thing. I guess he sings a lot on it and he’s surprisingly good. Oh, and he’ll be Ford Prefect in the forthcoming HGTTG movie. As for RJD2, I’d be interested in “sampling” that from you…
I’ll bring you Muddy Waters this weekend.
I’ve got plenty of MF Doom/Madlib as well. Mostly all of it.

  2. Don’t bother with the Mos Def album, I’ll bring it down this weekend, along with every M.F Doom album, including the one he did with M.F Grimm. I also have some music from Freddie Fox, Brother Ali, Slug, Roosevelt Franklin, Shapeshifters, The Grouch, Lucky I AM, Eyedea and Abilities, The Definitive Jux album, Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, Aceyalone and Azeem to name a few. I am bringin them all down to update your music collection this weekend. Your going to really like the stuff coming out of the Rhymne Sayers Crew. See ya this weekend.

  3. I dont’ have the RJ D2 album, although I almost bought it instead of the Eyedea and Abilities CD. I am glad I stuck with my first choice though. Rj does mainly beats, the only lyrical content is with guest artists. I’ve got your hip hop fix taken care of.

  4. Yeah – so I’m trying to be legitimate about buying music and you guys all post about bringing me music. Great.

I bought Handsome Boy Modelling School’s White People. Tom will get a kick out of it based on the Ladies Man (Tim Meadows) appearance alone.

  5. I forgot to give you Muddy Waters while I was there. I drug it to my car specifically for that purpose, too. Oh well. Yeah, I’ve got some codec downloading and configuring to do because the RJD2 and Handsome Boy Modelling School albums did not play at all. Also, the Tripping Point and Ultramagnetic MCs both had “phantom albums” in the folder with them. MediaCar would skip through the whole album really quick and then the list would repeat only those would play. It was weird.
