Thanksgiving, Out; Christmas, In.

Michelle, Barley and I ventured back to Yakima for Thanksgiving. We were able to visit family and friends while home, and were reminded how thankful we are for all of them. We had to come home today, but the drive was very pretty. Jack Frost has been out and about for the last couple days, so every limb of every tree was laced white with ice crystals. The desert is beautiful in the winter too.

Tonight we bought a small grand fir tree and decorated it. We have very few ornaments, but it excites me to see the tree that way because I know how many we’ll find over the years together. We did pick up a dog ornament and painted it to look like Barley. Our hope is that he doesn’t destroy the tree. He’s got a certain fondness for wood.

Now we’re waiting for Scott & Sarah to come over for dinner. I was able to bring back some Grant’s Ales in 1/2 gallon bottles. Tonights menu includes Bert’s Perfect Porter & cask conditioned Scottish Ale. Bert’s Scottish Ale is like the shot heard round the world.

Painting & Brunch

Yesterday Michelle and I helped Scott & Sarah move in to a new place just south of us. Its quite a bit closer, and its a real house, so we’ll probably be over there more often. Biggest improvement on their new place: No speed bumps. Did I mention how much I hate speed bumps?

Scott and I painted two bedrooms last night, and we’re about to go back over and help paint the rest of the house. Michelle’s Father and Step-Mother dropped by, and we went to Marco’s Cafe for brunch. We all had great omlettes.

Satellite Mister

Alan invited me to be one of his satire troup of pseudo siblings. I’m quite excited. I’ll be able to share my misplaced dislike of jetsetters. The name of his site? SatelliteMisters.com

If you listen to public radio on the weekends, you’ll know what its about. I always turn if off and Michelle gets annoyed with me. She’s not that impressed by this new project of Alan’s. She doesn’t have much free time though.

appendix

Idea for a bumpersticker: You need an SUV like you need an appendix.

The Yoda (Previa) made it back just fine. No damage done to the engine, and the new radiator and thermostat work great. The train ride up was fun, and the only two advantages that air travel has over train travel are:

  1. no cell phones
  2. speed

I highly recommend the route though. Its a nicer view than I-5 and you get to see a lot of Puget Sound.

too soon to tell

I’m standing on the balcony and its raining. However, I can see Mt. Hood and the sunrise to the east of it. Given yesterday’s election results, its surely a sign of the apocalypse.
