Develop a Geographic Information System for the Fire Mountain Scout Reservation for resource management. The GIS will help the Scout Camp make appropriate planning and property management decisions regarding scout safety, forest stewardship, and environmental impacts. This project will combine existing data from federal and county agencies and field collection. The data will include property lines and ownership, vegetation, soils, utilities, camp facilities and infrastructure, wetlands and hydrology, and topography. Another aspect of the project is the ability for site analysis. The GIS will allow us to determine appropriate locations for drain fields recreation areas, handicap access, and other future expansion plans. One of the intentions of this project is to learn how to create a GIS similar to those that would be used by small towns and cities.
